11/13/2023 0 Comments Monument valley visitor centerThe guide I don't remember his name showed us some places inside the Valley - I don't think we saw any extras. There were only my son and me so we had a private tour in price of normal. Some of your people should consider changing their mindset towards people who make a step to your people culture and lands…this lady was very rude and obviously sees tourists as money stream…very sad for you…and for us! We were so looking to this visit and got so disappointed ! Despite we already paid 85$/person plus 8$\person as entrance fee, she considered and told us « it’s meant nothing », we told her it was cristal clear, should we get in, we will tip in…from this moment and because we did not comply to Helen’s « order », she did not talk to us anymore but to the other family only!!! I don’t get at what point this kind of behavior is supposed to serve the navajo’s cause…what is sure is that so far, this tour is our worse memory of this incredible trip throughout the west of USA. Nobody there but us.īe kind and give a cash tip to your guide! Read moreīeside infos and stories shared during the tour were useless (just infos about the shades of the stones :-( Our guide Helen knowing we were French and Italian told us we were the worst tourists for tipping in before driving us to an old lady’s hogan. It was such a special day, and I felt honored that Vern shared his culture with us. Vern is a musician, and he played a beautiful tune on his flute for us. Mystery Valley is a sacred area of arches, cliff dwellings, otherworldly rock formations, petroglyphs, beautiful desert fauna and flora. Vern scrambled up rocks like it was nothing leaving me feeling like a total klutz, lol. He shared stories, history, and music of his people and the land. Vern is a very interesting guy with a fun sense of humor and a wealth of knowledge. We had the most amazing experience with our guide Vern. We met our guide in the Monument Valley parking lot, hopped in his truck, and took a short 10-15 minute drive up the road to Mystery Valley. Mystery Valley is only accessible accompanied by a Navajo guide. The first photo was taken shortly after 3:00 pm, while the second one was taken around 8:30 am.Decided to do a half day tour of Mystery Valley because we drove the Monument Valley loop in our truck (which is amazing!). I have passed by Forrest Gump Point in the morning, in the afternoon and at sunset and from my experience, I can tell you that the best time to go is definitely the first, when the light illuminates Monument Valley and you can distinguish well the colors of the rocky monuments in the background of this unforgettable panorama.Īlso, when you compare pictures from different times of day, the difference is remarkable, as you can see below. If you can, I suggest you to plan the trip so that you can pass Forrest Gump Point in a moment that fully enhances its beauty. Calculate about 15-20 minutes to drive from the entrance of Monument Valley to Forrest Gump Point. Then you can follow the same road to reach the entrance to the park. Once you’ve reached the Navajo Tribal Park you’ll have to go straight for just over 12 miles, turn around at the valley (the view will be behind you) and enjoy the view. But don’t worry, even if passing up seeing the beautiful landscapes in Moab is almost a crime, you can still find a way to see at least this viewpoint made famous by Zemeckis movie. In other words, if you arrive in Monument Valley from the Grand Canyon or Page (the most likely routes) you won’t pass Forrest Gump Point. In this case, you’ll find Forrest Gump Point right on the road, just before you get to Monument Valley, of which this viewpoint is a splendid foretaste.īut what if you are traveling on a route that doesn’t include Moab? In this case (unfortunately, this includes most people), you will reach the famous Navajo Tribal Park from the south, without passing through Forrest Gump Point, and since Forrest Gump Point is outside Monument Valley you will miss it completely… Coming from the Grand Canyon and Page You usually pass through this point when you are traveling from Utah ( Moab), after visiting Arches and Canyonlands, in the direction of Monument Valley. However, you can simply type Forrest Gump Point (or Forrest Gump Hill) in Google Maps and you will easily find it. The exact point you can enter in your GPS is 37☀6’09.5″N 109★9’21.1″W. Where did Forrest Gump stop running? Location and Directionsįorrest Gump Point is located on Highway 163 Scenic Drive (also known as Forrest Gump Road or Forrest Gump Highway), in Mexican Hat County, just outside of Monument Valley.
